A night celebrating spoken word poetry and songwriters
Our event celebrating the release of the new book 'Half of these are about you' by Kortu Valentine was a captivating and beautiful evening of spoken word, songwriting and music written and performed by women.

As usual, when listening to Kortu speak, I was captivated: taken to another place or feeling, sometimes warm, sometimes less comfortable, but very real and evocative. It's not just the words that flow from her mouth, but the way she speaks and performs that makes it such a enchanting experience. I now have my very own copy signed by Kortu resting on my bedside table to escape to in rare stolen quiet moments.
We also enjoyed performances by our resident Mum's bands - Taking Up Space - who impressed the audience with how far they've come in such a short time playing together, and Giving Up Pink received a standing ovation for their Original Song 'See the Flowers in Bloom' a song weaving loss and memory with gentle appreciation for everything we still have around us.

Finally, we had an incredible performance from The Lost Embers - local singer-songwriter duo who have recently grown their musical family into an exciting 7+ piece ensemble. We were taken on a sonic adventure with cello, keys, acoustic guitar, mandolin, bass and percussion. The craft-fully interwoven layers of sound masterfully played by seasoned musicians who played with gorgeous sensitivity throughout their set.

Lost in Eve played a few songs to open the musical part of the evening. Our original Song 'Alice' went down well after Meg suggested I add an eccentric 'ditty' on the floor tom. Alice is a slightly discordant and surprising song based around the idea that women have to change themselves to fit the various roles they have to play in every day life, just like Alice with her little 'eat me' 'drink me' dilemmas...
Our next performance is at the Craven Arts Exhibition Opening: From the Earth: North Yorkshire Open Studios 2026 on Friday 28th March. We are planning a quiet acoustic set and can't wait to play around with some subtle percussion, harmony and our guitars.
